My work focuses on the human figure, capturing those around me as well as myself. Through autobiographical self-portraits I revisit memories. It is incredibly important to capture the authentic human experience, as well as honor the physical practice of painting, especially in an increasingly virtual world. I primarily paint friends and acquaintances that draw my attention, whether it is from their fashion and features or simply because of their energy and presence. Through these paintings I share them with you. I also have an ongoing series where I paint significant, traumatic instances from my life. These works visually express foundational moments that I struggle to speak on, while offering a therapeutic experience through their creation, as I am forced to reflect and sit with them. These paintings create both a timeline and stand as a personal documentation of events in my life.
